The cases shown in the Used in Europe map, covered by the media or highlighted by NGOs, have been verified or supplied by our partners in relevant countries. However, we could not verify the legal status of all cases. The cases featured by us represent only a symbolic selection to illustrate the overall situation. Also, official governmental statistics depict only a portion of the reality. They differ according to governments’ efforts and capacities to address human trafficking. Moreover, the validity of the crime statistics is rather low. Cases of human trafficking do not always result in convictions and sentences for the criminals.
In many cases trafficked persons do not get in contact with the police and thus do not enter the statistics. Most numbers published about human trafficking comprise only figures of identified trafficked persons or are just estimations based on these figures.
